About Me
fi·as·co/fēˈaskō/
FI-AS-CO Noun: A thing that is a complete failure, esp. in a ludicrous or humiliating way
I don’t believe in labels, but as labels have been placed on me in my life, I now embrace them instead of trying to change them. I am simply on a journey to try to redefine the meanings of labels. Redefine the meanings of everything, flip the script. Everyone has the power to change the meaning of the labels placed on them…as labels don’t mean anything, they are how others choose to define you. Words can have oxymoronic meanings, which is why I embrace ‘Fiasco’. One day it will mean more than simply ‘great failure’…the evolution of language.
Photography is more than taking pictures to me. It is that escape, something nobody can take away from me, that nobody can ruin. My freedom of speech. So much can be done or said with a camera, a simple picture can convey so many thoughts of turmoil or peace, it only takes a second to take in a picture, but it could take years to understand the message.
There is also a certain power that holding a camera gives you, the ability to literally capture life around you, capture time, freeze it…and then time travel through nostalgia back to the moment you captured that picture as you look back through your photos. I can’t explain it…but its special.
Although I have always studied Art, I never guessed when doing my GCSE’s that I would want to become a photographer, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my future. All I knew is that it would have something to do with Art. I finally decided to follow some good advice and just went with what I liked doing, and I guess photography found me. I picked it up quite quickly and decided to step out of my 6th form after AS Levels to do a Foundation Diploma in Art in order to apply for photography at university. I believe I can carve a career out of taking pictures of everything I love, Music, Basketball, Traveling, Fashion and People. I made a conscious decision after I left my 6th form to be as positive as possible for the rest of my life. My camera has given me the ability share all my positive experiences with the rest of the world, and to also document special moments between others.
Photography for me is more than a career…It is a way for me to document my life and look back on some of my most precious memories. A form of introversion, self discovery. I hope everyone can find something they love as much as I love art and photography, and I hope my pictures have a positive impact on the world.
Follow my journey, and follow your dream ^_^
Peace and Love
Ray Fiasco
